COMPUTER AIDED GEOMETRIC DESIGN AND ITS APPLICATIONS

 

The two workshops are intended to introduce the audience to the general field of Computer Aided Geometrical Design (CAGD), to appreciate the scope of the mathematical content and the range of applications both industrial and academic. This series of workshops will be of interest to researchers and students from a range of disciplines including Computing, Computer Graphics, Visualization and general mathematical modelling.

The first workshop comprises a review of the nature of CAGD including the basic building blocks of parametric polynomials will be covered. Some less common alternative approaches will be reviewed. Finally, examples will be given to illustrate how CAGD impacts on a range of other disciplines. The overall aim is to give the audience an appreciation of the type of mathematics that underpins CAGD and to highlight the applied nature of the subject.

The second workshop will discuss the range of research projects that have been undertaken over the past 20 years at Geometric Modeling Group (Birmingham, UK). Many of these projects have been in collaboration with industrial partners which again emphasises the applied nature CAGD research. Also included will be a brief review of some of the topics of the PhD research within the group. The session will conclude with a brief look at a range of outstanding research problems from a range of disciplines including Visualization, Computer Graphics, Computing and Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacture (CADCAM).
